How to Reset During Quarantine

Most of us are stuck inside for the foreseeable future due to the coronavirus. Why don’t we take that time to get rid of things that aren’t serving us well?

As horrific as this virus is, it gives us the unique opportunity to slow down and really think about what we want in life.

Some questions you can ask yourself:

  • What is serving you well today?
  • What has been doing you a disservice?
  • Is there something that you wish you were doing, but aren’t?

Answering these questions will help you gain more perspective on what your current life looks like, and if there are any changes you would like to implement.

I’ve included a few ways to reset during quarantine that I hope will help you in your journey to becoming the best version of yourself.

Do a Virtual Detox

Get rid of any social media apps, games, messages in your inbox, etc. that aren’t serving you well.

Take time to go through your phone and look at the apps you have installed. Ditch the ones that you haven’t used in awhile, and carefully examine the ones that you have been using often.

Ask yourself the following:

  • How does this app make me feel?
  • Is it an overall negative or positive response?

If you have an app that is making you feel bad (Instagram is notorious for this sometimes!), then delete it.

You can always come back to it later if you choose to, and it’s a healthier and more positive place to be for you.

Start Your Spring Cleaning

While this isn’t a new concept for any of us, it can sometimes be hard to find the time to get all of our Spring Cleaning done. However, now that we are stuck inside for the most part, why not get started?

When your surroundings are cluttered, you tend to feel cluttered. Likewise, when you have a fresh, clean, organized space, you tend to feel more put together.

My dear friend Patty from The List Mom has a fantastic, comprehensive post for how to get your spring cleaning done. I loved it so much that I’m starting to follow it today!

You can check out her Spring Cleaning Guide here!

I have no doubt you’ll find your post as helpful as I did, and be sure to check out her other posts while you’re there. 🙂

Focus on Your Personal Growth

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: some things are just good for your soul!

Did you ever read a book or listen to an inspiring podcast and just feel like you’re on top of the world? Or maybe it’s more like you feel motivated and that you can finally start achieving your goals.

Whatever the feeling, it is so important to devote time to self-development. There are always ways that we can grow, and nurture our spirit.

I know how easy it is to get sucked into binge watching a favorite tv show or playing a game on our phone, but I can promise you that if you devote even a short time. You can even start with 15 minutes, and work your way up to an hour, each day – you will see and feel the difference, friend!

Here are some ideas, but there are many more ways to develop your personal growth:

  • Read your Bible
  • Meditate first thing in the morning
  • Speaking of mornings, create a routine that works for you and sets you up for success
  • Listen to an inspiring podcast (I love Rise by Rachel Hollis and Lara Casey’s Cultivate Your Life podcast)
  • Read a self-development book
  • Keep and write in a gratitude journal
  • Spend time in your planner with your goals (make sure you have specific instructions on how to achieve them)

How to Reset During Quarantine - Pin

I hope you’ve enjoyed learning a few ways to reset during quarantine! I know this is a difficult time for you and I am so sorry things are the way that they are right now. But please remember, this too shall pass. It doesn’t feel like it’s ever going to end or get better, but it will!

You can be a bright light in an often too-dim world. Be the best you that you can be. 🙂

Take this unique opportunity to really look at who and what is important to you, and what you want to accomplish in this life. You can do anything you set your mind to, and now is the best time to start creating the roadmap to making your dreams come true.

I believe in you, always! Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you just need a little support, or some help planning your dream goals!

Let’s Chat!

How are you handling this difficult time?

Is there something you’ve been doing to stay positive or be in a better mood?

Have you started Spring Cleaning yet?

We’ve been deep cleaning and de-cluttering the mother in laws home and in March I took a 30 day social media detox. Both things have been equally good for my mental health. Yes for many people it is time to be more introspective. One friend of mine said to me it was a wake up call for her, not sure what she meant by that as did not explain further and we had to get off the phone but I could not relate. To me having this virus and the situation it created be personal wake up call is a luxury. I already do all the things people do in quarantine. I already look inward and have questioned things.

This is not a wake up call for ME but more of the same. I was laid off long before the virus and #fakenews the economy was not so hot to begin with. Now it will be even harder to find a job. My friend who said this lucky she still has a job and can work from home. Also so many people died in particular here in NY. I feel like it is just a matter of time before I find out someone I use to know: a friend or college I lost touch has passed away. Really sad, the long term effects of the economy is going to be bad. I already experienced this twice before in the early 2000’s on the west coast b/c the dot.com implosion and 911, the moving back to NY in 2008 only to experience it AGAIN–Bad economy which took years and years to get better and now again. So no, not a wake up call, just more of the same.

I just do my best to take one day at time and try not to get overwhelmed. And yeah with social media if I never went on IG again I could care less. I hate FB and I am never on that platform and once it bough IG it went down hill and I feel now about IG the way I do about FB and its founder MZ I like none of them lol. I prefer blogs, and YT at least on YT there is real interaction and can learn things there too. IG is just “look at me, look at me” and hawking products…

I feel for you, my dear friend! While I likely fall in your friend’s perspective, because this has helped me to realize what’s most important and what I truly want in my new-normal, I can definitely see your perspective from this with what you’ve gone through. I hate that you’ve been laid off even before this quarantine. I cannot imagine struggling to find a job, especially during this difficult time. I will be praying that things get better for you! I think it’s wonderful that you’ve been looking inward all along and taken the time to question things. Those are so important, and I know they are going to serve as a great foundation for you as time goes on.

Being in New York during this quarantine would be so frightening. You have been through so many tragedies, and now this one. I have to believe that better things are ahead though, and especially for people like you, who are working hard and have focused on your personal development.

That’s the best thing you can do, friend, is to take it one day at a time. I imagine all of this gets overwhelming often. But just know that there’s only so much you can control, and focus on just that. Good things are coming, and again, I will be praying hard for your situation to get better.

I think I have a love/hate relationship with Instagram, haha, but I do want to work on it for my blog. I believe I can post some inspiring, positive things that will hopefully touch some people. That’s my overall goal. The interaction is so important, and I think that’s what we’ve lost with a lot of social media channels. They are called social media channels, yet, you’re right – they’re often just selling machines. I suppose it’s like everything, there are some really great accounts on platforms, and then there are some not-so-great ones.

Wishing you all the best, Allie! I’m so happy you took time to write this comment and feel free to reach out anytime! 🙂

These are good tips! I’d like to have more time to do things like this when we are isolating at home, but with trying to help the boys do school work remotely and working from home myself, our days are so busy. Some fun moments, but busy all the same! 🙂 Afternoons when my work is done and their schoolwork is done are usually just tidying up the mess they made when I was on a call, haha! Sometimes we play a game together or do some baking before dinner, but I don’t get time to just sit and spend to myself – I’d rather have that family time 🙂

Hope you are having a great week 🙂

You are so right, Melody! It has all of the answers, we just have to take time to read it, and spend time with the Lord.

As much as the quarantine sucks, I think it has been a great way for everyone to figure out what is important to them and be thankful for the life many of us live. For me, the quarantine has been a great time to work on the house and focus more on my own personal care.

I completely agree with you, friend. It has certainly been an eye-opener for me and what I really want my new normal to look like after all of this gets better. I’m SO happy you’ve had time to work on your new home. It looks so beautiful in your photos, and I’m still so happy for you guys!!

You can do it, friend! Just write a list of what you’d like to accomplish, create a roadmap to making those items happen, and check them off as you go. 🙂
