Let’s Look: Ways I’ve Turned Into My Parents

Let's Look Ways I've Turned Into My Parents

My first Let’s Look in over a year!

I couldn’t relate too much to January’s topic (things we outsource without regret), but on the other hand, anything to do with parents is right up my alley. I spend quite a bit of time with mine, trying to make sure they’re doing okay and help when needed. Those who know me best know my parental situation, but I really haven’t shared much about that here!

I have my mom, my older parents (my aunt and uncle who took me in when I was 16), and my in-laws. I am blessed immeasurably with all of them. Any good thing about me – they get the credit for, along with God of course, and anything less than stellar is totally my own trait and no reflection of them. I could only hope to turn into any of my parents, and certainly fall short many times over.

I tried to mix this up between some lighthearted, funny things and more heartfelt, deeper things.

Be sure to check out the posts by Shay (Mix and Match Mama) and Erika (A Little Bit of Everything) for this linkup, as well as others at the bottom of their posts!

You know the drill! Grab your coffee (or fave beverage!) and let’s dive into some of the ways I’ve turned into parents!

I’m a Nosey Neighbor

I promise this doesn’t mean I’m spying on my neighbors! I just keep my eyes peeled for anyone we aren’t used to seeing on our street who may be up to no good, and our close neighbors are so kind to do the same for us!

I Want Something Sweet After a Meal

Every single time! Somehow I’m too full to eat any more actual good, but can take a small bite of a snack cake or piece of candy easily afterwards, haha!

I Love to Cook & Bake

If you ask Kyle, I’ve gotten a whole lot better at it since we first got married over 10 years ago, haha! I’ve learned and cherished so many family recipes, especially chicken and dumplings and baked beans, and I’ve picked up some recipes on my own along the way.

Desire to Help Others

This could go for any of parents – they truly have a servant’s heart. I have always had a strong desire to help others whenever I can and still carry that today. I hope I never lose it. I can only hope to make even half the difference that they’ve made in the lives they’ve touched.

I Reuse Tupperware Containers

Do you remember your grandma’s butter containers in the fridge that never actually had butter in them? That’s what I’ve turned into, haha!

I Save Things That I May Need Later (But Never Do…Until I Throw It Away!)

I’m getting a lot better about saving things, but I’ve certainly done my fair share of saving things back “just in case.”

I Learned It’s Okay Not to Be a People Pleaser

My sweet FIL has helped me along with this so much during our fun lunch dates each week! I’ve been through a lot with trying to make everyone happy and sometimes that doesn’t really work out so well. Sometimes we have to take care of ourselves so we can better take care of others, and also not overload our schedules to the max. I still struggle with this one off and on, but thankful for such wonderful advice!

I Keep Track of the Weather

…And I even chat about it with strangers in the grocery line or waiting in the lobby at my doctor’s office! Yikes!

I Pray Before, During, and After Driving Somewhere to Stay Safe

Too many people aren’t afforded the luxury of driving to their destination and making it back safely. I am grateful for it every single time, truly.

My Faith

I’m not sure if/when I would have gotten into church before moving in with my older parents, and I am so so grateful for them instilling into me how faithful and loving God is. Today I am so proud to say that I get to sit on the same church pew with my mom and my older parents – what a blessing that is!

I Don’t Give Up Easily

Even when I want to, I remember that they’ve taught me that if there’s a will, there’s always a way.

Let's Look Ways I've Turned Into My Parents

That’s a wrap on the latest Let’s Look linkup, sweet friends! I hope you enjoyed this quick little post and found some you can relate to! In what ways are you turning into your parents?

P.S. I think I speak for all of us ladies doing this linkup that we would love to have YOU join us! If you’re a planner like me and would like to know the upcoming topics, check out the graphic below. The linkup is the second Wednesday of every month.

Wishing you a wonderful rest of your week!!

I really enjoyed reading this and even learned some new things about you! I would say if I had to list 3 things about you, being a servant/serving others is way up there! I need to pray before, during and after I drive somewhere. I know I do when the teens leave the house (!!). My momma reuses Tupperware containers, but I haven’t followed her on that yet! LOL!

I loved reading this post, and it made me realise all the ways I’ve turned into my parents too (although not in relation to cooking and baking – my Mum loved that and I hate it! My daughter loves it though so I guess that one skipped a generation).

I’m so happy you loved this one Julia and it helped you think about ways you’ve turned into your parents too! That’s kind of how it is with my grandma to my mom, my grandma did not love to cook but my mom does and so do I. It’s funny how that happens!!

How funny! I think as we all grow older there will always be at least a couple things that we do that our parents used to do! My mum was a caterer growing up and now I love cooking and baking — I honestly never thought I‘d be doing it professionally, and voila! Here I am! Haha! Great post!

I have very little similarities to my mother, at least at first glance. I look more like my father (may he rest in peace), and I was always told that we are alike as personalities too.
However, I did notice myself taking up some of my mum’s habits. For example, I now love incense sticks and light them up quite often, just like she does!

Haha I am 100% a nosy neighbour as well. I guess I’ve turned a bit into my dad in that I like to grow or make things at home. I applied for an allotment space and love to bake my own bread – things I’d never have considered in my 20s.
