It’s that time again friends, I’m sharing my Spring reads with you!
You’re going to want to grab some coffee or your favorite beverage because this is a long one! I’ve read more this year already than I probably read all of last year, haha!
This might be my year for Colleen Hoover. She was certainly all the rage last year, so naturally, I’m a year later on it! I’m pretty proud of myself for reading so much early on this year though – after all, I have a big book goal for 2023!
I’m excited to share with you my book reviews! Let’s dive in!
Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Just like Colleen Hoover, I feel like this author, Taylor Jenkins Reid, is all the rage! Many of her books are talked about so highly and this was my first book I’ve read by her. I was not disappointed!
This book is all about a band from the 70s (you guessed it, Daisy Jones & The Six!) – how they got started, their interactions with one another, their relationships, what led to the band’s breakup and all sorts of other fun details. Basically, everything you’d want to know if you were to interview a successful band, and that’s exactly how this book is set up: interview-style! It’s really neat the way that Reid did this, and honestly, she could have totally fooled me that this was a real band back in the day. There’s even song lyrics in the back of the book!
As you might know, Amazon Prime now has a TV series based off this book. So, the characters and their songs have been brought to life! I still have yet to watch it, but I’ve heard great things from others so far. I really need to hop on Prime and get started watching it!
Hopeless by Colleen Hoover
Before I even tell you what this book is about, I’m just going to go ahead and say this is my favorite Hoover book thus far!
In true Hoover fashion, you can expect this book to tug on your heartstrings! I just fell in love with the main characters, and I think you will too! Hopeless is about a seventeen-year-old girl named Skye. She has been homeschooled for her whole life up until now, but this year is different. For her senior year, she has finally convinced her mom to let her go to public school. She’s over the moon excited to start this new adventure with her best friend, playfully known as Six.
However, nothing goes according to plan and her friend Six ends up spending her senior year in Italy, leaving Skye to go through her first (and technically last since it’s her senior year!) year in public school alone. She encounters a bad boy, Holder, who has his eyes set on her from first glance. She’s just who he’s been looking for. While I wouldn’t call this a thriller, it honestly has a super thriller twist that really shocked me! Definitely give this one a try, even if you may not be a big fan of Colleen Hoover!
It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover
There is a lot of hype about this book and I really loved this one! I was in tears more than once, so you can expect to have your heart broken a time or two if you haven’t read this one yet!
The beginning of this book dives right into what could be one of the most horrible events to attend in a daughter’s life – her dad’s funeral. However, for Lily Bloom, it may be just the opposite – she may even be glad he’s dead. What’s worse, her mom tasked her with giving her father’s eulogy and soon regrets that decision. Needing an escape after saying some awful things, albeit true things, about her father at his funeral, she hides away in the evening on a rooftop.
Only to her surprise, she isn’t alone. There’s a handsome neurosurgeon named Ryle, who’s also looking for an escape after having a horrible evening. There is an immediate connection between the two. Just as things start to look like they could have a bright future, another guy from Lily’s life has been unearthed. Events from Lily’s past come flooding back throughout the book, some good and some very bad. This book is nothing short of an emotional rollercoaster! I loved this book though!
The Silent Woman by Minka Kent
I actually listened to the audiobook version of this one on a whim, and I was hooked from the get-go! I’m not a big audiobook person either, I just saw this one was available right away on Libby and really wanted to read a good thriller. This book is exactly that!
Jade finds herself adjusting to married life as a Westmore, living in Westmore Estate in which her husband Wells inherited from his grandmother. While it is a glamourous newlywed life, Jade is a sweet soul and if you needed proof – she lives across from the last Mrs. Westmore, who resides in their guest house. After a horrific pool accident, Sylvie Westmore has been an unsolved mystery for every doctor. None of them can truly figure out what’s caused her to be in this condition. She can’t speak, she can barely do anything for herself. Wells has hired caregivers and nurses to take care of her, and is the sole person making all her medical decisions.
One morning, a nurse beats on Jade’s door and tells her there has been an emergency and she has to leave right away. Jade felt sorry for Sylvie, knowing this entire estate used to be hers and now she’s stuck in the guest house, all by herself. So she does the one thing that Wells has told her never to do – go see Sylvie. He has warned her how dangerous she can be, she’s unhinged, and he doesn’t want her to get hurt. Jade knows she needs to eat breakfast and worries about her being alone until another caregiver can come over to take care of her. While it is an awkward encounter until the new caregiver arrives, nothing could prepare her for the moment that Sylvie slips her a piece of notebook paper that’s written one single word on.
From this point, there were so many twists and turns that it had me constantly guessing what was going on, it really kept me on my toes! I would LOVE to see this book turn into a movie or even a tv series. It would be SO good!
It Starts With Us by Colleen Hoover
This is the sequel to It Ends With Us.
This picks up right where the original book left off, and because I don’t want to give anything away for those of you who haven’t read it – I’m not going to say much about this one. I heard a lot of reviews saying that this book didn’t really need to be written, nothing more needed to be added to the story. While I sort of agree with that, I still enjoyed this book a lot. It was nice to see how the characters interacted with one another as time went on.
Also, we get to see part of this book from Atlas’ perspective, which is the guy from Lily’s past that I mentioned in the review of the OG book. I’ve always found that interesting. I can remember when Stephanie Meyer did that with Edward’s character from the Twilight saga (yes, I was one of those crazy obsessed Twilight fans, haha!). So I think that if you read the first book, you should definitely read this one, even if you go in with low expectations – it’s just good to catch up with the characters!
The Seven Husbands by Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Another super popular book on my Spring reads list! I honestly wasn’t sure about starting this book, I’m not always drawn to celebrities telling their stories. I hesitated with Daisy Jones for the same reason, but by this point I knew how much I enjoyed that book, so this one was certainly worth a try.
I’m SO happy I started it because I couldn’t put it down! I finished it the next day. I would have finished it the same day if it wasn’t so late at night. For those of you who know me well, you know I’m usually in bed around 7ish every night, haha! I made it to 10 pm with this one, but just couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer. It was just THAT good though!
This book follows Evelyn, a Hollywood movie star, and each of her seven marriages. We go one-by-one as we see her life unfold and it is so interesting! While it’s appropriately titled, it’s anything but predictable. I didn’t expect the twists at all, but yet was so taken aback I just had to keep going to see what happened! Still blown away by how great this book was and I absolutely recommend it. If you haven’t read anything by this author yet, I’d definitely choose this one first!
Confess by Colleen Hoover
I found myself feeling all the emotions in this book, much like It Ends With Us! Some characters I wanted to hug and some I wanted to punch in the face, haha! Hoover has a way of putting together characters that you naturally become so invested in, and maybe that’s why I’ve been reading so much of her work lately.
Confess is about Auburn Reed, who stumbles upon a ‘Help Wanted’ sign that changes quickly to ‘Desperately Needing Help’ in real time. Auburn knocks on the door and finds an artist, Owen, who needs someone to handle all the purchases at his art show that very night. She jumps right in to help and feels there is a catch, but he assures her that there isn’t one. The person who used to handle the transactions just quit last minute and that’s why he needs the help ASAP.
Auburn and Owen quickly fall for each other as you might imagine, but so much threatens their relationship in a short amount of time. Both characters have their secrets, and they all unfold over the course of the book. I really liked this book, but I didn’t love it like the others I’ve read. Still a very solid book that I’d recommend checking out!

I loved reading The 7 Husbands too. It’s such a great book! I just finished Local Woman Missing which was really good. It is set in my town!
It truly is! Oh wow, that’s so interesting that it’s set in your town. I’ll have to add that to my TBR list!

I don’t know how she does it but Colleen Hoover rights books that I just can’t put down.
Have you read One True Loves or After I Do by TJR?
I definitely get that. Sometimes I like the picks that maybe aren’t the most popular, but it’s such a good guide to go by, and seeing others’ thoughts! I agree, Hoover has a way of captivating her readers. I haven’t read either of those by TJR (I’ve only read the two books by her that are in this post), I will have to check those out!
We are in the middle of watching the Daisy Jones & The Six TV series and it is SOOO good! Oh, 7 Husbands I think is my favorite read this year yet!

YOU MUST WATCH DAISY JONES & THE SIX!! I loved it, lol. I loved a few of these books too! I have It Starts With Us on my TBR still – I think because of the mixed reviews, I haven’t felt as excited to pick it up.

I was the same with 7 Husbands, it was so hard to put down! I find that books I love that I can’t put down are the ones that keep me up at night too, haha! I read in bed, but sometimes stay up too late turning the pages just to see what happens next! It’s really good you enjoyed these all.

All these books sound so good and I love your review on them. Confess sounds really interesting and I definitely want to read it. When you read some books you feel like you know the characters and the twists and turns make the stories that more interesting.

I have read some of these and have many on my TBR as well.
